For the first time it is now possible for parents and guardians to monitor screen time and set limits for child accounts, including bedtime schedules.

ok. go fuck yourself. go to hell you abuse enabling pieces of shit who pushed for this

the foundations for web filtering support has also been added — a backend service that can enforce content filters for child accounts once the user interface is completed in future updates

you fucking wannabe authoritarian censorship tech manufacturers do not belong in FOSS. begone

okay, already pretty maddening, what else is up

this important work to make GNOME more accessible to young people

you’re using “accessibility” as an excuse for this oppression tooling? that’s fucking spicy wow. “we’re enabling parental abuse for accessibility!!!” wow go fuck yourself. i repeat, go burn in hell. idiots like this are why the idea of hell was concieved

fuck it, apologists - come at me and get blocked: #GNOME

@[email protected] yeah,,,,

i've always just laughed at the "parental controls" thing in gnome
if your kid is smart enough to be using linux instead of an ipad or windows or whatever, they're probably smart enough to either find a bypass or just reinstall the computer?

"okay pookie here's your fresh gnu/linux desktop, mommy set your bedtime to 9pm and blocked super tux kart after 6"this won't happen for 99% of young people using gnome, since they set up their OS themselves, have root, and can set their age to any number they want

the sheer uselessness of this anti-feature for most of users doesn't excuse the shitty ageist intentions behind it. and sadly, just from how many users gnome has, some creature out there is probably going to be oppressed with this

gnome devs should know better

@sel gnome devs seem to want to bring us all back to the microslop-esque dynamic of one’s operating system being their adversary
@sel and suffice it to say they’re being successful; i’m now hesitant to update my system at all, just like i would be with windows. i cannot trust gnome (nor linux or systemd for that matter) to be maintained in all good faith anymore
@sel downgrading to gnome 49 now. will be sticking with that for the forseeable while. if the project’s current take is “the oppressive antifeatures are acessibility actually”, i do not feel comfortable using the latest versions. i do not feel comfortable using it at all, but there doesn’t appear to be an easy alternative
@zaire @sel so you think GNOME and its developers are fascist enablers for *checks notes* making it marginally easier to prevent a child from having unrestricted internet access, but you also don't think it's important enough to avoid fashware to switch to one of several DEs with similar UX immediately?
@ochotona_princeps @sel each day brings me closer to placing a mute on all of xenofem, but for now, apologist block number fourrrr coming up~
@zaire @sel wtf, if you're on fedi then i can only assume that you understand the trappings of mainstream web platforms right? is it not negligence to expose a child to that sort of thing? is avoiding that kind of negligence seriously less important to you than being a freewheeler because it feels right? i don't even think parental controls are anywhere near the best way to address this, i'm just asking as somebody who's had unrestricted internet access for as long as i've had a working long term memory...
