Meanwhile Blackpool has made it to the last nine in a bid to become UK City of Culture 2029.

Winning would be an opportunity for Blackpool to both galvanise its local cultural sector (and population) but also be a major turnaround in its profile in British political society.

Whether it will win is another issue; but getting this far is great news for the often criticised (large) town.

Why not? Laughable that my current town of Seaford (pop 24k) & adjacent town of Newhaven (pop 14k) have put in bids when Iā€™m unsure how many of the local residents would recognise culture if it was staring them in the face.
