According to AIS tracking data obtained by CNN, the amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli was nearing Singapore Tuesday morning, which means the US marines onboard will reach Iran early next week.

The ship could play a key role in an assault on Kharg island (Irans Oil distribution terminal), or the Iranian coast line.

The 257 meter long vessel normally travels alongside multiple smaller warships and carries several types of modern aircraft including F-35B fighter jets and Osprey helicopters.

@randahl what exactly is the strategic advantage of a 1000-foot ship in the new era of drone-centric tactics?
@cascheranno being able to deploy 2500 marines anywhere on the the coast really fast.
@randahl @cascheranno will 2500 men suffice to any tactical action? Iran have some days to assess its defences (either on Hormuz or Kharg)
@randahl if this was a video game, this would be a suicide mission that i would skip. usa keeps stepping on its dick. omfg.
@randahl Trump doesn't know when to stop. He's destroying so much. Even his own credibility.

@paulk @randahl

He never had much credibility to destroy. A bigger problem is that he's destroying the US, its interests and alliances, and he's trying to make the rest of the world suffer for his incompetence.

@mcv But it keeps the attention away from the Epstein files!

Priorities...

@randahl

@paulk @randahl
One cannot destroy non-existent things.

@randahl

Blitzkrieg now becomes Boots on the ground krieg. Operation "Epstein Island". Iranians may think, If we cant sell oil, might as well put the island on fire... 🤨

@randahl

The USS Tripoli now sailing to Iran is named in honor of the US Marine Corps victory against Tripoli during the First Barbary War.

The First Barbary War was the first major American war fought outside the New World, and in the Arab world [...].

Let the USS Tripoli's involvement now signify the last major American war fought by America outside America.

@randahl Getting the fleet to Kharg Island means passing through the Straights of Hormuz, which might not be straightforward as the Iranians will have an opinion about it.
@randahl They will be sitting ducks 🤦‍♂️

@randahl

Btw last night, Stephen Colbert talked up his favorite app: MarineTraffic. I haven’t tried it yet so don’t know if it includes military vessels. Would be cool if it does.

@randahl They will be sunk before they even hit the beach.
@randahl
#China will watch with interest how forces that could be disturbing them from taking #Taiwan can be moved out of the way ...
