We returned from five days in Dunedin this afternoon, and in the mailbox was a summons for jury service. I thought I was too old but evidently not.
I got one last month and while I always fancied being on a jury for a decent murder or a fraud case, I turned it down.
They warned that one of the trials was scheduled to take two weeks. For me it would be a 50km round trip each day plus parking at $3.50 an hour. Even if that wasn't a problem, I'd have trouble sharing a room with 11 unmasked people for any length of time.
So I finally played the "I'm too old" card and they won't ask me again.
