We returned from five days in Dunedin this afternoon, and in the mailbox was a summons for jury service. I thought I was too old but evidently not.
@leighelse They heard your most recent record and realized you’re still sharp as a tack. 😉
@leighelse if you are 65 or older you will still receive a summons but you don't have to do it unless you feel like it. I had one earlier this year and I figured why not.

I got one last month and while I always fancied being on a jury for a decent murder or a fraud case, I turned it down.

They warned that one of the trials was scheduled to take two weeks. For me it would be a 50km round trip each day plus parking at $3.50 an hour. Even if that wasn't a problem, I'd have trouble sharing a room with 11 unmasked people for any length of time.

So I finally played the "I'm too old" card and they won't ask me again.

@leighelse

@BobLefridge I'm in the happy (or unhappy) position of being able to walk to the courthouse in ten easy minutes. Or bike it in five. And, like you, I'm interested in being part of the process.

I've said yes. I'll see how it goes.

@leighelse @BobLefridge Good on you for putting your hand up. If you're picked, prepare for what could be a tough event.

@leighelse @BobLefridge I've been on three juries, each was a fascinating experience.

If you're comfortable leading discussion, volunteer to be the foreperson. It's more interesting that way.
