Before becoming a politician, one should complete a mandatory 1.5 years of social service, divided into three-month periods:
— in nursing care
— in a daycare center
— in a school
— in a medium-sized company
— in retail
— on a farm
All unpaid and voluntary, of course.
they are mostly sociopaths.. it wouldn't mean anything to them. Just one more box to check off while climbing the ladder of power.

Might be uncomfortable enough to at least make the worst of them veer off the political path. (This is not to say they wouldn't veer into something more dangerous for society, but it might at least slow them down?)

You know ultimately it's the voters who vote them in to power.. over and over again. I'de rather start my troubleshooting there. Look at how close the election was. He won by 1.5% FFS, but talks like he has some broad mandate granted to him by the majority of the population. Again, they believe their own lies, and lying comes naturally to them.

They are such good liars because they actually believe their own bullshit..
That's hard to counteract externally. To counteract that habit of mind internally within them, forget it.. just forget it.
Imagine anything slowing down a sociopath of her stature.. I can't imagine it.
