This seems like it should be accomplishable with considerably less compute.
Also, why the hell do memory manufacturers allow any particular sector or client to monopolize their entire output? Or more to the point: Knowing the sheer disruption such a thing would cause, why is this not regulated so it doesn't happen?
@lispi314 @da_667 There is no incentive for memory manufacturers to do anything other than enthusiastically participate.
Their mandate is to make as much money as possible, as nothing else. AI nonsense pre-bought their entire stock and that is not only desirable, it's a massive win.
The system is functioning as intended. That we're set aside and left out is not an anomaly

Note how one can't simply do the same with all the groceries in a city to simply starve the population, for example.
@lispi314 Oh, I don't disagree that it SHOULD be regulated but that regulation is an external force that is ultimately counter to the company's own interests and, essentially, counter to the free-flow of capitalism itself
The profit motive, the incentive structure of Capitalism is antithetical to a having a functioning society. So my thing is more "of course THE COMPANIES will allow it, it's purely a good thing for them". The grocery stores would also themselves sell everything to the one guy
