How to make sure you have focus time:
1. Set aside time just for you on your calendar
2. Have someone schedule a meeting you can't skip then anyway
3. Quit and become a goose farmer

About a month ago, due to repetitive mountain lion attacks, we stopped raising geese by re-homing them to another farmer. As next venture, I decided to look into Bonsai. After a month of initial investigation, I formally jumped into Bonsai by doing 5 air-layering on five different Pacific Northwest native species found on my property: hazel, vine maple, crab apple, cascara buckthorn, and service berry. The normal recommended growing medium for air-layering is sphagnum moss, an imported product. In my frugal habit, I collected tree moss on my property as replacement. July is somewhat late for air-layering, but we still have 2-3 months of growing season. Let's hope they can take roots in this period. Total cost for 5 air-layering: just a few zip-ties, and some potent rooting powder. Branch diameter: from 3/4 inch to around 2 inches.
