If my maths is correct (& the US gallon is the size I think it is, because it's different from ours) that's roughly $1 per litre. In the UK it is currently £1.40 per litre & we are one of the cheapest in Europe. Without checking the exchange rate I'd guess that's not quite double what you are now facing as a sudden huge price hike.
I write with no comment, I just find the comparison interesting.
I remember the horror here when it went over £1 per gallon (bigger gallons than yours, so probably nor far off $1 per US gallon at the time), then again when it went over £1 per litre. I assume there will be similar when it finally hits £2. It seems to be human nature to object to round numbers (don’t know what people would do if they realised it is currently about £6.35 per gallon (imperial) here now!!
