@brologue No, I just hit three returns before I start writing. Then I periodically select all the text below the break and do a word count in Geany (a text editor). Once it crosses 1k, I delete the extra CRLFs and make a note of the day's words and the new total.
@brologue I keep the stock phrase ("1002 words (52553 total) on “The Post-American Internet,” a sequel to "Enshittification," about the better world the rest of us get to have now that Trump has torched America #DailyWords") at the bottom of the file and update the numbers, copy them to my clipboard and paste them into my socials when I'm done writing for the day.
