The worst thing about progressives ignoring problems with Big Tech, not even trying alternatives, is that eventually, when the fascists have ripped the last of our freedoms from us and we're left with no rights at all, those scabs still won't see that they could have made a difference.
Ok, I mean, sure, the WORST thing is the fascists ripping the last of our freedoms from us, but once that happens, the worst thing about THAT will be hearing people ask, "How did this happen!?" and then having them ignore or debate with us when we tell them the answer... again.
@resl That's the thing... I go to No Kings meetings and they end up talking about who they're going to vote for in the next election. Meanwhile, I ask why we are using the same system that got us into the mess we're in now and expecting it to "save" us from fascism. Silence.
@flyhigh Silence and then when you're not there, they're like, "It won't be easy to organize with weird, overly idealistic people like that but we need all the people we can get!" lol
@resl It does seem like they're just putting up with me and for the reason you said.

@flyhigh Same here. I read the Indivisible guidebook and it explicitly says if your local chapter isn't for you, start a new one. There's no limit to how many chapters there can be in an area.

But when I told the leaders of one chapter that I was starting a new chapter they automatically assumed it was an antagonistic thing to do and acted like I was being crazy and aggressive to do it.

I mean the name "Indivisible" might have been a subtle warning that maybe they want everyone under the same authority.

I talked to a lady the other day who DID start a separate Indivisible chapter. She was attending "Indivisible Portland" and said she wanted to do a protest against the g-word of the P-word. Got stonewalled and shut down as a reply, so she went and started her own chapter with a bunch of her friends, then went and protested the g-word of the P-word.

Rumor has it the leader of Indivisible Portland came up and physically pushed her down during that protest, angrily accusing her of being divisive, and thus helping the Bad Guys win.

@cy @flyhigh It's so mortifying, this shit lol. It makes me feel less alone though to get to talk to people who understand so I appreciate that very much.

I'm gonna try to pressure Indivisible HQ to fund a Decidim instance with Voca hosting so everyone in the US can start forming regional citizens assemblies.

I'm just one squirrel but I encourage others to push for this as well lol

I only have her word that any of this is true, and I only met her through a friend of a friend, so it's just a story, far as I can confirm! What I'd like is to just get some sort of community associations going around here, maybe share food or practice basket weaving and give us private spaces for planning more. Haven't found anyone else interested though...

Decidim? Never heard of it, actually. They make some bold claims, just eyeballing it. Looks cool, though I'd make proposals just by posting them here and tagging my city or whatever. Meetings, same thing. I just don't know anyone nearby (here) to meet with. The "Sortition" looks interesting.

Stop confusing liberals with leftists and progressives.

The overwhelming majority of Democrats in Congress and the Senate are NOT progressives.

@resl there’s an essay I’ve been trying to sell about mobilizing some kind of countervailing tendency among software engineers against “move fast and break things” (move slow and build carefully?) and it would be great to see progressives take that up as a political idea worth supporting
@resl all the progressive people I know are still on WhatsApp. Are they “progressive”?
@AccordingtoWouter I know some Iranians use it for family. I just wish they would urge their families to use different tools as well but I know people see this as a fringe issue even though it is key.
@resl They ought to know that intelligence agencies out to kill them are reading along.
@resl
Something like "whoa, nobody could see it coming" or "yes but we couldn't scare the moderates away". These will be their last words when CorpoCops will take them away. We'll be hidden away in our solarpunk commune in the mountains, btw.
