*finally* one of my mistaken purchases works out ... I bought a m.2 2230 NVMe stick for $18 last spring or so because I didn't realize it was keyed different than a m.2 2230 wifi slot. 😩 whoops.

well, it sat on the shelf, appreciated in value to over 3x what I paid for it, until (after making ANOTHER misguided purchase along the way, more on that in a sec) I decided to stick it in my laptop's m.2 2242 slot.

so I got an extender thingy, and that's when I found out that PCIe x4 NVMe sticks are M-key and the ancient x2 Optane stick that'd been in that slot was B+M-key and thus it still wouldn't fit 💀

soooo anyway I finally just received a B+M-key to M-key, 2230 to 2242 adapter widget, and now my laptop has 4x the swap it previously did (and the new drive is only 25% provisioned for the time being).

WHEW.

so to break down the comedy of errors:

1. fail to understand that m.2 2230 NVMe stick won't fit in m.2 2230 wifi slot, despite reading about m.2 card keying. purchase m.2 2230 NVMe stick to put in a wifi slot in one of my 1LPC servers.

2. stick doesn't fit and goes on shelf.

3. start bottoming out my laptop's RAM regularly. decide it's time to upgrade the 16GB Optane stick I use as swap. completely fail to remember or check that this is a m.2 2242 slot. purchase a m.2 2280 32GB Optane stick.

4. stick doesn't fit and goes on shelf.

5. decide to use shelved 2230 NVMe stick for swap. purchase a little screw-on extender, having completely failed to appreciate the fact that the shelved stick won't fit in the slot due to keying.

6. stick doesn't fit and goes back on the shelf.

7. finally purchase the correct adapter widget and install the shelved stick in the laptop.

8. (will happen in the next few days) 32GB Optane stick will finally go into one of the little servers.

this is the concrete result of being in a state of perpetual overstimulation: it messes with my brain, I can't parse things properly, and I make dumb mistakes and oversights. this is the single biggest impediment to getting anything done, and why all my projects move at a snail's pace, and why I don't have regular work.

this is still the case even though I'm doing much better in my current environment than I was in the last one. I'm better, but I'm still nowhere near baseline. #actuallyAutistic #actuallyADHD
