I wonder if we'll ever see Waiting Room signs that depict the person sitting there staring at their phone. Or whether it'll always be a book, the way the Phone Call icon is still a telephone receiver and the Save icon is still a floppy disk.
@CiaraNi Sure they're not just about to blow their nose?

@miblo @CiaraNi

Or they have just blown their nose, and they are looking at the splotch in the tissue to a) evaluate the mucus, and b) do an impromptu Rorschach test

@headword @CiaraNi *snorts* Haha, a likely story! 🤧
@miblo @headword I think we may be failing a Rorschach test here
@CiaraNi @headword Definitely! Don't get me started on that freshly-sliced cake that's sadly plummeting off the shelf above…
@miblo It's okay, the cake will land safely in that napkin they're holding

@CiaraNi

I remember Eva used the term skeuomorph for this kind of thing

@MargaretD I remember that too. It's a great word. I hope someone reading a book in a waiting room doesn't strictly qualify. It's not as common, but not yet a thing of the past.

@CiaraNi

I'm nearly always the only one with a physical book, in the waiting-rooms I frequent

@MargaretD There's still usually at least one of us, at least. It's not entirely archaic. Or maybe we are.

@MargaretD
Ha! Me, too.

@CiaraNi

@wannabemystiker @MargaretD It often occurs to me that other people in the waiting room, on the train, etc may also be reading, but are invisibly reading an ebook or listening to an audiobook. Print books are just more visible.
@CiaraNi honestly it took me a second to figure out what was going on in that sign.
@bit101 I love the graphics of it.
@CiaraNi For a second there I could not figure out what the hell was going on in that image and then I realised that's supposed to be their leg on their other leg.
@retrosponge They’re just very relaxed. The book must be good.
The internet has broken me. Before I scrolled down to the text, I just assumed the sign was showing some weird sex thing.(and also that in Denmark, the person on the bottom wears a helmet. Practical, but not especially sexy imo) ;)
@Frost_Farm I am entertained by the interpretations of this sign in the thread. I saw a person reading. Apparently, it is a person reading, eating cake and blowing their nose while having sex. While wearing a helmet. That graphics artist was clever!
@CiaraNi I hadn't thought of that, it's very funny, this things should be updated
@nys793 We could start with traffic light symbols. The Red figure should be standing still, staring down at their phone. The Green figure should be striding forward, staring down at their phone, about to collide with someone else.
@CiaraNi don't forget that traffic lights are just for cars, in some countries there are special additional lights with signs foe pedestrians
@nys793 Ah! That was what I actually meant - pedestrian lights. The infrastructure where I live is so geared towards pedestrians and cyclists that I hadn't been thinking about cars at all there, I realise now.
