You may wonder why Bowser is able to capture and garrison every castle, tower, and fortress between his castle and Peach's and kidnap Peach on a semi-regular basis, but it makes a lot more sense when you realize that the entire standing military of the Mushroom Kingdom consists of 13 individuals: two (2) Italian plumbers from Brooklyn, nine (9) mushroom people, one (1) small omnivorous therapod dinosaur, and Princess Peach herself.

I mean, like, who else is there?
- Toadsworth? Civilian.
- Daisy? Princess of a different kingdom.
- Rosalina? Also the monarch of a different kingdom.
- Baby Luma, Co-Star Luma, Lubba, and the crew of Starship Mario? Subjects of Rosalina.
- P3 and P4 from Mario Bros. Advance? Deep cut, but they're still in Brooklyn.
- Stanley? See above.
- Literally any Kong? Live in an entirely different country and neutral at best.
- Wario and Walugi? Neutral at best.
- Pauline? Mayor of a city outside of the Mushroom Kingdom.
- Professor E. Gadd? Civilian.
- F.L.U.D.D.? Okay, maybe, but we never even see it anywhere except Isle Delfino, which is not part of the Mushroom Kingdom.
- Prince Florian? Prince of a different kingdom.
- Starlo? Hasn't appeared in a mainline Mario Bros./Super Mario game.
- Birdo? Neutral at best.
- Nabbit? Mercenary at best.
- Gooigi? Honestly, no clue. Does he even count as a person?
- Lakitu Bros.? Embedded journalists.
- Other Yoshis and Baby Yoshis? At best, the equivalent of local guides, interpreters, and PMCs. At worst the equivalent of a dog adopted by soldiers on deployment. Either way, not part of the standing military.
- Dorrie? See above.
- Plessie? See above.
- Fluzzard? See above.
- Cappy and Tiara? Residents of a different kingdom.
