Needed: an exclamation mark, but smaller, for those occasions when none is wrong and one is too much excitement.

A dry exclamation mark, if you will. For use with irony and sarcasm.

Maybe it could be slightly wonky as well.

@Gaolaitch

"!" ?

ellipses can suggest all manner of things… they're suggesting you let your mind run-on on this one rather than "." then next…

@wavesculptor Do you mean with the double-quotes as well? Busy, and good for some purposes but not others.

My initial use case is:

[a post about a thing I did that I am pleased by, but it is a small thing; followed by…]

a) Whoopee.
b) Whoopee!

a) = ‘it means nothing, and I hate it; why am I even telling you about it?’

b) = ‘hey guys I’m super-excited about it, high five!’ (high school cheerleader vibes)

I want something that fits between these two; a small and silly fist-bump which simultaneously downplays itself.

@Gaolaitch I have a better idea of what you mean now.

My "!" was jokingly quoting the essence of your post, not an alternative suggestion

This is where other generations use pictorial emojis ... if you avoid most pictorial ones, as I do, you can always build your own old-fashioned punctuation-mark ones

Also, I think when you're getting this subtle, via text, you build your own style-language which your regular readers understand. Some people don't fully get basic punctuation, so getting more subtle for strangers probably amounts to personal entertainment.

a) I would default regard as cynical
b) natural ebulliance

next step-up would be caps lock or other characters.
