I am BEGGING people to understand that "but that's illegal" does not, in fact, mean that somebody can't do that.

Seriously, today I've heard "no, that's illegal, that means they aren't able to do [thing]," "if it was illegal, they wouldn't be able to do [thing]," "but the law says they have to so they have no choice," and "won't a judge show up [at the dispute site] and make them?"

LAWS AREN'T MAGIC.

@theleftistlawyer "you could sue them!"

I could also summon my squadron of mech pilots and crush their home town, and yet

@sinvega @theleftistlawyer

"You could sue them" is why the ruling class is so invested in wage theft and poverty rates.

@theleftistlawyer which also means that anthing illegal is now in "don't care". Killing a billionaire CEO: everyone likes that. #luigi
@theleftistlawyer this is as hilarious as the signs I see on the highway saying "speed enforced". Nope that's not what you think it means. Unless you actually have a way to forcibly control other vehicles speed, you are not enforcing anything.
@theleftistlawyer cost of compliance vs cost of penalization * likelihood of being penalized
