I need information (not money) to help out a friend in Switzerland. [Edited to add: they are a Swiss citizen.]

I have a friend in Montreux (Vaud) in serious crisis. They are considering voluntary self admission to a psychiatric facility. But there are obstacles:

- They have had terrible experiences in facilities in the past.
- They are on disability payments and are terrified of getting stuck with a bill they can't pay that ruins their life.

Can anyone in Montreux area recommend an appropriate facility that is guaranteed to be free and decent quality?

Or can you recommend where to go to get information and support for someone in Vaud who is in crisis?

This is high stakes situation, I live in a different country I don't need "let me google that for you" or random speculation, I need *reliable* information from people who know what they're talking about.

If anyone can help, I would be deeply grateful.

@AdaraAstin are they Swiss?
@kauer Yes, they're a Swiss citizen.

@AdaraAstin no clue with which facilities they had bad experience, but I'd suppose to reach out to the emergency dept. at CHUV (university hospital) in Lausanne:

emergency hotline 0848 133 133

open 24/7

@lynx Thank you for this information.

Do you have any direct or second hand experience with the facility? And do you know how much it costs?

Thank you again.

@AdaraAstin you're welcome! I don't think they charge anything, at least not for a first assessment. Worst case it's covered by the health insurance (would be surprised if not). I don't have any experience with the service, but I'm sure they provide professional help on a high level. And for sure they can assist with discussing longterm treatments and how to avoid unexpected costs.
@lynx Thank you again very much.

@AdaraAstin

Thank you for doing this for your friend. I'm sorry I don't have any information

@AdaraAstin I've had good experiences at fondation de Nant (nant.ch) and hospital Rennaz (0800 779 779), but can't tell for adult services and it might vary a lot between wards.

The 143 (general), 144 (ambulance) or 0800 133 133 (cantonal doctor) hotlines can also help if needed or provide other options.

CHUV is indeed an option.

@Nclt might suggest alternatives.

@AdaraAstin @MartinVuilleme
Hi! I don't have much experience with adult psychiatry, sadly. Besides, my experience is based on very complicated psychosocial situations so it's not very reliable for you.

(sorry for the coming spam, i'm not that good in briefness in my native tongue, let alone in english.)

@AdaraAstin @MartinVuilleme That being said, Nant (Vevey and Rennaz) has a crisis service with a 24/7 phone line that will be able to advise them. AFAIK, those line are good (if your friend had bad experience in Nant, they can call the CHUV, in Lausanne, they have a similar service). They will be able to direct them to a facility that has room, or will be able to meet them quickly for an appointment.

@AdaraAstin @MartinVuilleme I'm sorry for their bad experiences in the past, residential psychiatry is a complicated field (both to work in and to benefit from) and bad habits tend to endure. And i cannot garantee that it won't happen again or that it will be benefitial for them. That's why i would advise to go through those lines, so that they can meet someone that will be able to advise them correctly.
@AdaraAstin @MartinVuilleme Regarding the costs, if your friend is receiving disability benefits, their medical expenses should be covered, but they'll need to double-check that with the doctors. And if that's their only revenue they are entitled to supplementary benefits ("prestations complémentaires") that cover every medical bills (to the penny). (you can come back to me if you have specific questions about that, i'm beginning to be competent in that area 😅 )
@AdaraAstin
(and thanks for being such a good friend for them, it means a lot, especially in those situations !)
