So in the last few years there’s been a thing in the #UK where people have insisted their #islamophobia #homophobia and #transphobia are protected by the Equality Act as deeply held personal beliefs, and they’ve repeatedly won in court.

It’s just a weird flex. Ok yes, you have the human right to think *whatever* you want and be awful to people. But maybe don’t?

As a self determining free human you also have the right to roll in your own shit but no one does that and these things stink worse.

And all of us #antiracist and #antifascist types are basically just trying to say, usually quite gently, that you, uh, have something bad on your shoes
But it’s really bad that you can get a legal pass for small, artisanal bigotries that you’ve curated yourself. It gives a lot of cover to the big structural bigotries we’d rather not talk about and which most of us (the set of humans currently holding smartphones) still benefit from.
