We need to separate “tech” companies from videogames. This level of ghoulishness is insufferable. This is not progress in visual tech. This is defacing of an art form by people with ugly souls.

Also, fuck Digital Foundry. Like, seriously. That level of oozing over shit Nvidia peddles is disgusting. (and not new for them)
@yurisizov I'm glad I actually read the article because the way you're describing it, it seemed like they'd be foaming at the mouth to try it. This comes off to me as much more neutral than you implied. Sure, I would prefer a recognition that this technology is poisoned like all corporate "AI" is, but not criticizing something isn't the same as shilling for it. This article was mildly positive and curious at worst, and even somewhat apprehensive at times.

@wombatpandaa They are, in fact, repeating marketing nonsense from Nvidia without challenging it. On every platform they sell this as the future of in-game lighting, they talk about how this doesn’t artificially change anything in game, and that it somehow restores the original creative intent that gamedevs were unable to implement themselves.

But thanks for letting me know that this doesn’t pass your threshold for shilling.

@yurisizov I've looked into it more since I made that comment and I'll admit that I was wrong. With the context I now have, it's clear to me that DF were gassing a technology that they instead should have given much more scrutiny.

@wombatpandaa Hey, I appreciate that you've reached out! It seems that DF themselves have somewhat walked back their tone from the video and the article, and the team is split in opinions and concerns.

I'm sorry if my own response was too harsh. This crap makes me very upset and angry, and I do not feel there is a lot of space for the middle ground anymore.
