Sri Lanka declares all Wednesdays off to conserve energy

This is the latest in a series of measures undertaken by Asian countries which rely on oil from the Gulf.

@kibcol1049 we should do that. 4-day weeks become the standard. Everyone wins (except a few billionaires, and who cares about them?)

@kibcol1049 Morning Col 👋😊

Now that’s the best decision any government, anywhere, has ever made!!

@kibcol1049 This is actually very sensible.

@kibcol1049 a man often meets his destiny on the path he takes to avoid it (kung fu panda)

is big oil regretting getting trump elected and forcibly ending thr fossil fuel era yet, do you think?

@ASprinkleofSage 👍 They expected this term to be like his last one, but he was restrained last time by a few sensible people who knew where to draw the line and stop his excesses. This term he's managed to get rid of them and he's doing whatever he wants with no sensible restraint. Lord knows what else he could do. 😱
@kibcol1049 i think its worse - they got frustrated by other people still having any money/resources and wanted to go full unrestrained, thinking consequences were for other people. real hand stuck in the cookie jar but wont let go energy.

@ASprinkleofSage @kibcol1049

why would they, there profits in the US are through the roof, not as though they ever absorb increased costs now is it.

@Thebratdragon @kibcol1049 unless this move is potentially stupid enough to destroy the dollar

@ASprinkleofSage @kibcol1049

The oil still has to be bought, so currency for the corps is paperwork, for the US gov it is armageddon.

@kibcol1049 Natural gas deficit will also have interesting consequences. At least Trump had the decency to start the war in spring.

@CosmicCactus @kibcol1049 as in no more commercial fertilizer for food production … in the spring

Nobody will need ozempic come winter on the northern hemisphere

@Kierkegaanks @kibcol1049 Yes, but freezing to death because you don't have heating would also be very unpleasant. Still might happen depending on how things develop.

But honestly I'm more worried about what happens if the problem doesn't get resolved before strategic fuel reserves run out. If Russia decides to open another front and there isn't enough fuel for the military I'm not sure what will happen.

@CosmicCactus @kibcol1049 i suspect 47 will ease russian sanctions (to allow for attacking the baltics)
@Kierkegaanks @CosmicCactus @kibcol1049 That's why he's encouraging other NATO countries to move their ships far away from the Baltic.
@TimWardCam @Kierkegaanks @CosmicCactus @kibcol1049 majority of Baltic defense will fall on forces not tied with ships, also kremlin had barely afford one war.
He is definitely helping one way or another, but less hyperbole please.
@kibcol1049 @peteriskrisjanis @TimWardCam @CosmicCactus i guess the fleet is needed to protect support shipments in case of war
@Kierkegaanks @kibcol1049 @TimWardCam @CosmicCactus that is not really how Baltics defense works.
Trust me, I know. If something is gonna happen, it is not gonna happen of this little excursion.
@kibcol1049 @CosmicCactus @TimWardCam @peteriskrisjanis No but they need to limit outside support, and they’re already sabotaging power cables and internet cables to make it easier to isolate you in darkness. And if they are as willing to engage in sabotage deep inside of poland, sweden and finland as various intelligence services say, they won’t hesitate to attack cargo ships

@peteriskrisjanis @TimWardCam @Kierkegaanks @CosmicCactus @kibcol1049 agree. Soaring oil prices will be a boon for Russia's finances in the short term, which he will use to improve voluntary enlistment packages and war supplies for the war against Ukraine, but I don't think he would fall again for the same mistake which led him to believe Ukraine would be over in three days.

Because, if he tried anything like that, then all limits on weapons supplies for Ukraine would be removed.
