@allianceradio it was a great net, but was I the longest licensed amateur with 1991? That makes me feel old.
@DragonBard @allianceradio If it makes you feel better, I am chronologically old (60), we can break out the Evil Kienevel Stunt bikes and watch BJ and the Bear :)

@kc1mur @allianceradio I'm very happy to see so many new hams. The silent gen hams were so awesome, helpful, and welcoming. Their kids however. I've been waiting for a change of the guard as it were.

Edit to add: Not to say that gen-x is any better. I'm deeply disappointed in most of my generation. They always talk about how important it is to get young people into radio, but then are toxic when they show up.

@DragonBard @kc1mur our group was founded by a GenXer and a Xennial and we'll DEFINITELY buck that trend.

All.Are.Welcome.Period.

@allianceradio @kc1mur which is why I'm happy to be involved.

I didn't notice a lot of the toxicty in the hobby until my kid got involved, and was extremely uncomfortable with how they were treated.

@DragonBard @allianceradio Agreed. We wear our trauma and indifference as some sort of twisted badge of honor instead of recognizing it for what it is: apathy to the human condition.
@DragonBard @allianceradio
You're a youngster! I was first licensed in 1981 (in the UK)

@MikeFromLFE @allianceradio awesome! I've been inactive so much of late, the hobby often feels entirely different to me.

I remember having to learn all about tubes and such, and that tech is nearly gone.

@DragonBard @allianceradio
I was QRT for many years until the covid lockdowns and when I came back almost everything had changed!
I've embraced digimodes on HF because they mean that with limited power and a 'wet string' antenna I can work pretty much all over the world.
The strangest thing has been how 2m & 70cm are so quiet now.

@MikeFromLFE @DragonBard @allianceradio Depends on where you are at I guess? 2m and 440 in my area (mid-NH\ME) is very active, especially for low population states. The only thing lacking is sufficient Winlink RMS coverage - packet or VARA - for 2m. Linking to DMR, Allstar, YSF, and Echolink is a bonus.
