I created a quick #flohmarkt instance to try it out.

Its purpose is to be an alternative to
- #facebook #marketplace
- #ebay
- etc

To sell and purchase things from other people in the #fediverse

Interestingly enough, I don't see any instance in North America yet (#usa and #canada)

Only in #europe

fraxoweb flohmarkt

A flohmarkt instance. Sell and buy 2nd hand items from other users.

@frank
Interesting…
@frank
Looks like it’s available as a Yunohost app, too…
@crispius yeah, that's what I used to set it up

@frank
Hmm. It's pretty basic, but it works.

Would be nice if one could customize the interface (theme) a bit more.

A buy & sell page would be a good draw to a localized fediverse instance.

@crispius

What do you mean "a buy & sell page"?

Currently, there's no clear distinction. I guess you'd need to specify in the title/description of the listing.

@frank
Well, once upon a time I had this vision of a local Fediverse ‘hub’ as a way to create a community hub that would encourage folks to ditch corporate social media platforms like Facebook.

The hub would include a messaging platform (Mastodon) but could also include other Fedi services like Pixelfed for photo sharing or Peertube for videos.

The layout would be something like:

• localname.social (Mastodon, as the ‘anchor’)
• photos.localname.social (Pixelfed)
• video.localname.social (PeerTube)

Having a buyandsell.localname.social would dovetail nicely into that.

@crispius

Yeah, that's also what I'm creating with my fraxoweb.social instance

I'm thinking about adding more services, but I don't really like using subdomains.

Real domains are expensive but are shorter and cleaner.

Peertube = localname.video or .tube
Pixelfed = localname.photo
Flohmarkt = localname.market
