"learn ai or become part of the underclass"

how fried is your brain if you think you have to learn how to use ai. OH NO HOW WILL I EVER LEARN HOW TO TYPE IN A SENTENCE AND THEN BE DISAPPOINTED AT THE RESULT

the only way you could possibly think people need to "learn how to use ai" is if you've literally evaporated the last part of your brain that learns how to learn to do real things by using ai to do things
How about i maintain the skills ive learnt over my lifetime that everyone using ai are not learning and then if there ever comes a time i have to use the torment nexus ill simply stop trying to kick away its tentacles that are wrapping slowly around my feet with its whispers of "Hey would you like me to help you with that? its easy! heressss how to ussse me"
i know how to use content aware fill, go away.

"See it's got me thinking about things like, why is there pain and unhappiness. Why is there suffering? Is it just so we can overcome obstacles and have, I don't know, transformative experiences that allow us to grow and better ourselves? Why can't we already be our best selves?"

I AM PROUD TO BE IN THE UNDERCLASS.

@siege The first job to be eliminated by AI was "Prompt Engineer"

Its part of the whole stupid sales pitch, its easy! You're stupid and AI will make you look smarter, you've gotta do it!

@siege I'm always taken aback when people express fears about being "left behind" from LLM tooling. I thought the entire point was you bark orders at the computer and it does them. The marketing is that you didn't need to be a computer expert. What is there to learn about Claude? How to reword the same thing 50 times to get the code you want? (Which you then need to evaluate for correctness anyway.)

@siege

These are the same people using the same thinking when they _swore_ that you could _tune_ your Facebook algorithm.

Which you can't. And never could. Because it's not _your_ feed. It's not _your_ "AI".

The buy-in at all levels is horrifying to behold.

@siege

We had to write code by hand like animals!

@siege It was heckin depressing at my job.
"You need to learn how to use AI! No, we won't tell you how, because any resource would be instantly obsolete."
Yeah that... definitely doesn't sound like vapourware.
@siege this is just what happens when I type
@siege you think documentation is bad now? Wait until genAI is your only way to get to it. There will be no training, no well-researched books or carefully planned curricula; just prompts.
@siege I already have "type a sentence and be disappointed", it's called writing.
@siege They mean to learn to love the result. Like you learn to love Big Brother.
@siege I think we just need to start bullying these people tbh.
@siege checkmate Silicon Valley, Iโ€™m already part of the underclass ๐Ÿ˜Ž
@siege Sadly, this is the official position of the Education Department where I live. They want kids to "learn to use AI". Not understanding that the kids are more likely to be used *by* AI.
@siege I got an email from my college that the EU made it mandatory to take this course on AI use. Wtf
@siege the most important thing to learn is helplessness
@siege remember "have fun staying poor"? Same as then I am not interested in stuff that promises to leave people behind.
