@lorimolson True story: when I wasnot long out of college I had a job in an office with almost no other woman. My boss was a nice guy, but his next in line, who had the office next door, was a misogynist creep. Three admins before me had left because of him--in four weeks! I'm made of tougher stuff.

One day number two, by now treating me with trepidation if not respect, asked me to type a letter and gave me his handwritten draft. His handwriting and spelling were both bad.

@lorimolson One word was particularly unclear. I went to his office to ask for clarification.

"This word in the second paragraph isn't clear. It says you want equipment sent to... (I begin to spell) W, H... is that an A or an O? I can't make out your handwriting. Is that word "warehouse" or "whorehouse"?

I swear to you, he blushed! "Warehouse! Warehouse!"

"Thanks. I wanted to be sure. Um, warehouse is spelled W, A, R, E... no H."

I returned to my office and finished typing.

@lorimolson It was quitting time. My boss was out of the building. I gave the letter to the contrite number two and went home.

When I arrived at work the next morning my boss was already there. He slammed a fist on the desk and roared with laughter.

To my surprise, number two had told him the whole story.

The boss admitted he knew the guy was a jerk, but he knew arcane aspects of the business and would be impossible to replace. He had long needed to be taught a lesson.

I did.
