So yeah. I am kinda looking for a new job that allows me to make our digital world meaningfully better. If you have any leads or thoughts, ping me.

(In an ideal world I'd be way more charismatic and connected to know some rich person to fund me and ideally a few people but that's not the world I exist in.)
@tante I just learned of a different business model called a Public Benefit Corporation on Planet Money’s podcast. They interviewed someone in journalism which often struggles with funding. Public Benefit Corporation puts social good into the core of the business as well as addressing the funding. I don’t know if there is an easy way to find various companies that use that model.
@coleenwalter @tante My understanding of PBCs and (related but different) b corps is that they are proxy indicators of good intent, but not guarantors of good behavior. The constraints built into the corporate charter could be vague, unenforceable, or changeable. The whole thing could be a thinly veiled ruse by bad faith actors intent on using positive public opinion to get away with crime, as in the case of OpenAI.
@twifkak @tante I didn’t consider that : intent (or the stated intent) vs the behavior. The deception is disheartening.

OpenAI is a for-profit public benefit corporation controlled by a non-profit, so, the “public benefit” part is broadly defined
