Hi. Hello. Someone tried to scold me for moving a default branch from master to main by being very pedantic with the Oxford Dictionary so I just said, "Yeah well there are some men I call master so when I see the word I get an awkward chub," and immediately won the argument.

@dkub I mean you don't even gotta be pedantic about it. "Master" makes no sense and neither does "main" we should be using "trunk" because trunks actually have branches
@thickurt @dkub yeah, but trunks are also chub territory
@thickurt @dkub but if we use trunk people will think you're using Subversion 🤣🫠
@robdaemon @dkub I know you prefer Domversion but whatever
@thickurt @dkub I'm flexible 😈
@dkub this is the canonical answer from now on 🙃
@dkub You are officially my favourite person today.
@dkub i change mine to trunk so either way i get wood
@dkub awesome response 👏
@dkub And that's a follow! And a super bonus follow for the T. A. T. U. reference in an earlier post. You're a man of culture.
@dkub
In all my repos i renamed master to... Mistress
No regrets

@dkub

Well ackshually, master is clearly a reference to a master record, meaning that master is a branch for releases, and releases only. And main is also clearly the "principal" branch, as in "most important", so it is where the code goes between releases. 🤐

@dkub That is delightful - can I quote you on that?
@drwho Sure. lol.
@dkub Thank you very much. My family got a good laugh when I read your post to them. :)

@dkub Years ago I had a co-worker suggest (on Teams) we change "whitelist/blacklist" to "allowlist/blocklist".

I was confused, because I didn't think there was a racial connotation, so I spent about 30 minutes quietly digging through the etymology of the phrase and began a carefully constructed response about how it "wasn't offensive" and "here's the historical context..." etc.

While writing my reply, I stopped and thought, "Maybe this doesn't matter and I should just stfu." and deleted it.

@dkub I try to remember that moment when I start feeling the urge to argue anything. It really is that easy to choose your battles.

@dkub Not all heroes wear capes!

Some of them wear... whatever Master tells you to wear. 😉

@dkub I name my git main Senpai and my branches Kohai.
@dkub can we call this action “master-baiting”?
