I’m happy to report that the M5 Max #MacBook Pro with 40 GPU cores runs #Cyberpunk at max Raytracing settings at a solid 45 fps and looks fantastic (on battery, will retest on power, although I don't expect it to make a difference).

Edit: This seems to have been impacted by post-setup slow-down and the fact that it throttles slightly when on battery. Re-running this on battery now gives 69 fps and on power 77 fps (see thread below).

Edit 2: I see now what happened. 2nd run had frame gen on!

With the “For this Mac” preset + Vsync off it's a solid 85 fps - and I’d need a side-by-side to see quality differences. This is at 2294x1432 resolution by the way, so very crisp. No frame generation.

This is probably what I'd play at if I wanted to run another play through.

#MacBook #Cyberpunk

Same as the previous post + AMD FSR 3.1 frame generation: 145 fps. This thing is a GPU monster.

Hold on - it makes a huge difference whether this is on power or not. Or maybe something was still running in the background on the first test. I just reran the Raytracing Ultra settings and I'm getting 77 fps now.

#MacBook #Cyberpunk

Indeed, this does seem to throttle a bit when on battery but not as drastically as in the very first post. So I'm guessing the 45 fps I got there were due to background activity post-setup.

#MacBook #Cyberpunk

Actually, the difference was that I'd turned on AMD FSR frame generation. Re-running the very first test on power gives the same result. It's all consistent. I thought the presets include FSR but it seems that changing the overall setting does not reset the FSR setting.

#MacBook #Cyberpunk

Ok, final one, the one I'll run with for now. “For this Mac" + AMD FSR + full native resolution 3024x1980: 107 fps.

The M5 Max has re-ignited my love for this game. It’s simply the best.

It’s too soon for another play-through but I’m looking to clear every mission in the game. All fixer gigs, NCPD alerts, all side-quests. (Although I might skip the racing and the boxing one, we’ll see.)

And no fast travel. I enjoy traveling through this city so much.

@finestructure 😅 behave. I’m getting numbers go up envy. *looks longingly at my ride or die M1 Max*
@finestructure I was looking at this for a potential replacement for my M1 Max MBP, but ouch, the price of it hurts my soul 🥲 is it the 14” or 16”?

@ulrikdamm It's a 14”, and yes, the price is steep… I'm replacing a M1 Max as well. I'm surprised how long the M1 has lasted and honestly it doesn't feel one bit slow.

Used to be that when you upgraded Macs you felt a significant improvement just in how the OS handled (windows, app launches, etc).

There's perhaps a tiny bit of that but the real oomph is in Xcode and other work, like Cyberpunk 😅

@finestructure I'm also still very happy with how well the M1 Max is holding up, though I'd give a lot to speed up Unity in any way 😅 and just having enough GPU power to never worry about it is very enticing.
Would also want the 14", slightly concerned about throttling/fan noise.

@ulrikdamm I actually find the fans on the M-line quite unobtrusive. Certainly a lot quieter than my gaming PC-laptop 😅

Let me know if you want me to test something for you!

@finestructure Yea love the quiet fans on my current, I was afraid with higher wattage that it has gotten worse on newer models.

When we open our game for playtesting again I'll throw you an alpha key to see how well it's running :)
