I’m in a 1980s mood. I’m more of a synth than guitar guy.

Already done Talk Talk, Prefab Sprout, Tears For Fears, Prince.

Recommendations for best and perhaps an overlooked 80s album?

@gingerbeardman Just off the top of my head, some 80s faves: Dead Man’s Party, Faith, Simple Minds (can’t remember album name), Violator, A Kind of Magic
@splendorr still waiting for you to reply to my last DM
@gingerbeardman oh! thanks for the reminder, I lose track of DMs in almost every interface 😅 not many people message me. I’ll try to remember after work!!
@splendorr Simple Minds is a great rec, love it

@gingerbeardman What about Depeche Mode?

Also Psychic TV. Coil. Heaven 17. PiL. Magazine. Tangerine Dream. Ultravox. …

@gingerbeardman Simple Minds’ “New Gold Dream” (and earlier). HoJo’s “Human’s Lib”.
@moobaa Simple Minds YES, I need to get into HoJo
@moobaa “New Gold Dream” was good, that’s my first time!
@gingerbeardman Excellent! Now try “Sparkle In The Rain” :)
@moobaa will do—just having a palate cleanser of “Alive and Kicking (12” Remix)” 😬
@gingerbeardman Bangin' track, but veering into arena-rock. Love "Once Upon A Time", but it's more a guitar album than synth ;)
@moobaa I do like a good anthem. I was saying to Ely the other day that M83 “Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming” album is for me a bit of modern electronic Simple Minds kind of vibe. There are a few anthems on it, too
@gingerbeardman Simple Minds are still a force to be reckoned with live, too. And "Waterfront" is still an all-time great people mover.
@moobaa “Sparkle in the Rain” pretty good, both will be getting some relistens
@moobaa just listening to the Celebrate Live album at SSE Glasgow, and thinking I should really be watching the DVD

@gingerbeardman There are so many! (I recently started listening to Prefab Sprout again too). Here two I liked, both from 1986.

1. Bob James & David Sanborn: Double Vision https://music.apple.com/album/double-vision-2024-remastered/1760311375
2. Steps Ahead: Magnetic https://music.apple.com/album/magnetic/305099575

I only still listen to Magnetic which I find one of the best albums in its genre (acquired taste, be warned ;-)
