(The US president keeps calling the war he started an "excursion" which... IDK. Odd word choice. )
@futurebird it's a bit archaic, but 'excursion' does also have the meaning of 'a raid into foreign territory without a formal declaration of war'. It's entirely possible a member of staff used the term in that meaning and he's picked it up.

@futurebird I don't know about US usage, but I think I recognised it from writing software for training UK army officers around 2005.
