Meta AI is not supported in Estonia. THis means that I don’t get image descriptions from my glasses. So I created my own Ai, by setting up an openclaw agent on an old mac. The action button on the Meta Oakleys can be configured to send messages to a specific account on whatsapp, which I set to my openclaw AI. When I take a picture, and press the action button immediately, the image is sent to the AI, which is configured to reply with a description with a voice message (because the glasses refuse to read long messages). Yes, its way slower, with turnaround about 30 40 seconds, but on the bonus side, I get to tweak the description style and have it run face recognition on my custom faces database, so it knows when family is around for example.
@jakobrosin What Oakley glasses do you have? I have HSTN and I am not able to find a way to configure the action button.
@vick21 @jakobrosin Yeah same over here with my HSTN first gen glasses. I think this is a thing on the newer generation units.
@andrew @vick21 I am using the Oakley Vanguard glasses, and the action button is configurable in the settings under customise customise controls
@jakobrosin @andrew I'm sure we will see this one day being introduced as a new amazing feature on HSTN as well?
@vick21 @andrew I'm hoping for the new and amazing feature of having the Meta AI available over here. I am sure one day it will be introduced as a revolutionary feature, or more likely as a feature of extended regions on a completely new device I would need to buy. Knowing those companies, I wouldn't be surprised at all.
@jakobrosin @andrew I just saw some news of Glide being canceled for Europe, probably because of some of the similar concerns.
@vick21 @jakobrosin @andrew Wait what where? I'm on the preorder and haven't got that news yet lol
@Scott @jakobrosin @andrew You're not In Europe, are you? :)
@vick21 @jakobrosin @andrew Sort of no, but some companies still essentially treat the UK the same. Particularly seems to be true around tech, hence I'm worried.
@Scott @vick21 @jakobrosin @andrew Apparently by Europe they mean the EU.
@KaraLG84 @Scott @vick21 @jakobrosin @andrew In this case, UK is not included.
@ppatel @KaraLG84 @vick21 @jakobrosin @andrew Great, thanks for confirming. Big bummer for the EU folks though.
@Scott Yep. I had preordered the product, was very happy to support them further, but now they have thrown us over the cliff, I am not shure any more. I get the regulatory approach but my personal tolerance of being the back-ally of accessibility technology is diminishing quickly. @ppatel @KaraLG84 @vick21 @andrew
@jakobrosin I don't disagree. I'd be bloody pissed if it were me. In their eagerness, they forgot to plan for the long-term. They should never have promised a full role-out like they did. Managing expectations is one of the first things that companies should be considering. I get the enthusiasm to deliver something cool. It should never be at the expense of people. @Scott @KaraLG84 @vick21 @andrew
@ppatel To be fair, they definitely refunded the whole preorder, but the damage to reputation remains. @Scott @KaraLG84 @vick21 @andrew
@jakobrosin Have EU regs changed significantly since the preorder was live? If not, seems like a deeper understanding of opperating in that territory would've been good to have in place before opening the preorder. @ppatel @KaraLG84 @vick21 @andrew
@Scott No, the only major legislation I could suspect is the EU Artificial Intelligence act, but given we know almost nothing on whats the AI in glide, I doupt that was the issue. @ppatel @KaraLG84 @vick21 @andrew
@jakobrosin @Scott @ppatel @KaraLG84 @vick21 @andrew From what I undrstand is that they are using a machine learning model that is tuned to American pavements, Europe is a area the modell have to be traindd at.
@vitallie @jakobrosin What? Did the European market sneak up on them? it's not like they weren't aware of their need to Go to Europe. @Scott @KaraLG84 @vick21 @andrew
@ppatel @vitallie @jakobrosin @Scott @KaraLG84 @vick21 @andrew Yes, Vincent is correct. I've been told it is not a legal issue, but rather a quality control issue. They say they're unable to guarantee proper working in European countries as they have insufficient AI training data. They also think that delivering support will be more difficult in these countries in the pre-order phase.
@vitallie In that case launching in the UK wouldn't make any sense. @jakobrosin @ppatel @KaraLG84 @vick21 @andrew
@Scott @vitallie @jakobrosin @ppatel @vick21 @andrew Yep. I'd love to see how it gets on round here. Our pavements are knackared.
@KaraLG84 Ditto. Knackered and cluttered. They didn't seem worried about that at the demos I've been at. @vitallie @jakobrosin @ppatel @vick21 @andrew
