Our first post should be an #introduction so here we go. We are a small press based in Uganda/East Africa, and we are passionate about speculative fiction. We publish #SciFi #fantasy #horror #solarpunk #afrofuturism and #africanfuturism books, and we also love #folklore so you should expect to see regular posts about African folk lore. This will be our only social media presence.

Ododo Press
@ododopress that is very cool. Following!

@ododopress I love the AI policy on your site:

"We are radically anti gen AI. Anything you see on this site is wholly written and produced by human beings. The only automation we use are in programs like Blender, Davinci Resolve, and Krita, tools that make it easier for a person to produce digital artworks using resources on their local computer. We will not produce audiobooks, however much you are paying, that were written by AI, or written with the assistance of AI."

@ododopress @marshant Welcome to the fediverse; lovely to have you here :) 💕

@ododopress

Hi! Welcome to the Fediverse. As you will see, you made the best choice for your social media :-)

I am part of a reading club in Spanish with a long tradition in Mastodon (since 2020 we have read more than 150 pieces of fiction, from many countries, mostly science fiction and fantasy).

We want to read the novel "Nnanga Kon" ("White ghosts"), from 1932, by the Cameroonian author Jean-Louis Djemba Medu. In the reports we found, it is mentioned as the first African speculative fiction novel. It was written originally in Bulu.

The problem is that we only have a PDF in the original language, and there is no translation of Spanish. In other cases, like Croatian and Russian, we have used automated translators and they worked fine. But in the case of Bulu, it seems that the difference with Spanish is too strong and what the programs return is unreadable.

So here is my question: are you aware of any translation to Spanish, English or French of the aforementioned novel?

@SeverianX Hey! I've heard of that book, but never got my hand on it. I know several authors/people from that country, and so I'll send them a text inquiring if they know of translations (though I think there's one in French). Give me a couple of days and I'll get back to you with any information. And if possible, I can try and find someone to translate it. Let me ask around ;-)
