The day for our annual zeppole run! I hesitate to say we gat ours from LaSalle: the choice of bakery inspires strong sentiment in Providence…
@shriramk Uhhhh.... so where's my zeppole?
LZ 129 Hindenburg - Wikipedia

@bremner @dabeaz This bakery actually sells "Led-Zeppole" t-shirts.
@shriramk perhaps from Hole Foods Market?
@shriramk I am entirely oblivious here. What are these confectioneries and why is this an annual event?

@tealeg
What:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zeppole

Why annual: because you really ought not be eating that more than once a year (-:.

Somehow springtime seems to be zeppole time around here. Partly for St. Joseph's Day, which is around now, but there's also some link with St. Paddy's Day (some crossover between looked-down-upon Catholic immigrants huddling together in a Protestant country?).

Mostly, I think, just excuses for goodies in the New England spring muck.

@tealeg Not sure how much of this link you can read, but this kind of puff piece (if you'll pardon the phrase) is standard around here in the spring:

At bakeries across Rhode Island you can choose your flavors from pastry cream to limoncello to Neapolitan.

@tealeg There "where to get" is a bit funny because all these bakeries have been around and the same list for ages, in some cases for over a century.
@shriramk a question that’s a little like asking which fairground bar to frequent at Hannover’s Schützenfest or which tent at Munich’s Weisn (Oktoberfest).
@tealeg I've been to the Zürcher Kantonalschützenfest, and I can say that there's no Swiss beer that particularly holds my attention. (-:
@shriramk I couldn’t even name a Swiss beer - it is not held in any regard by Europeans in general. That said, much beer snobbery is just thinly veiled nationalism, so make of it what you will!

@tealeg The main one that comes to mind is Feldschlössen. Kinda' a Budweiser. There are certainly others. I'm sure there's a craft scene now.

But CH also has some good wines, which furthermore you simply can't get outside the country, so why even bother with beer! Wife is a big fan of some from Epesses, in Canton Vaud. Certainly more than serviceable.

@shriramk @tealeg Some craft breweries from around here, in case you find yourself in western Switzerland (Coop supermarkets have a selection):

Dude, if I'm there I'm just going to drink the wine!
@shriramk oddly, that entire page and video seems to be accessible. Most informative! The Irish crossover was a little surprising, but perhaps most in keeping with the melting pot of colonial America.
