On the latest iOS beta, if you happen to be driving before having opened the Music app at least once…

…you can't listen to music in your car.

Instead, you get this alert that you need to go review the privacy info on your iPhone first.

The only option is Dismiss, which… quits the Music app in CarPlay.

@marcoarment I’ve seen that before after upgrading to a new release (not a beta), so annoying
@marcoarment Would you get any negative reviews if you did that with Overcast? But then you probably know better.
@marcoarment Only podcasts in the car for me then. No one has time for that.
@marcoarment at least in the Rivian Apple Music app you can review and accept right there.
@marcoarment I guess it’s not safe to read the terms and conditions while driving. Take way too long. Right?
@marcoarment Does the same thing with HomePods. Login and accept terms before playing that is.

@marcoarment I had a similar experience recently with Maps and some kind of location tracking request. In a car.

Maps!

I ended up tapping through to Google Maps.

@marcoarment
Not looking forward to the inevitable enshittification of CarPlay with obnoxious ads.
@marcoarment This isn’t new. It has bitten me several times over the last few years. Terrible user experience!
@marcoarment See, now that should be in the beta. “We updated TOS, click here” before you ever get to use your phone. Deferring it to CarPlay is a horrible user experience.

@marcoarment lawyers ruin everything.

at least there's no option to have Siri read the Terms to you.

@marcoarment I see iOS is following Windows standards now. I remember seeing this in a Ford Van that ran their Windows based Car Infotainment system.
@marcoarment 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️😡😡😡
@marcoarment absolutely infuriating, but not at all a new bug. Had that happen to me a couple of years ago
@marcoarment Not seen that. Have found it impossible to get CarPlay to link to the car though.
@marcoarment Our HomePod/AppleTV does something similar in that after some updates it stopped playing Music until we logged into a secondary profile on the AppleTV (which was linked to my partner and I don’t think either of us created and we never use) and found the music app in there wanted us to confirm the TOS.
Been hit with this many times in the last couple of years. So frustrating considering I’m not even using the online component, just trying to play music already on my phone.
@marcoarment This happens often, also with other apps. Recently I noticed my son’s iPhone had stopped sharing its location with us (parents). I thought he might have found a workaround to switch it off. Turned out he hadn’t accepted the latest iCloud terms on his iPhone. This apparently stops certain iCloud features, like location sharing. He’s a minor. We’re in an Apple Family. It would make more sense to get notified of this and maybe even accept these terms for him on our phones.
