Next week Chancellor Rachel Reeves will again set out how she hopes to see the UK/EU 'reset' help the country battle the economic doldrums in which it (we) drift.

The problem, however, remains:

The UK sees the 'reset' as focussing on strategic areas where there is some benefit to (re)engaging the EU.

What the EU sees is the continuation of a long term policy of cherry-picking and 'having our cake & eating it'.... for the EU the benefits of EU membership come *with* membership!

Until the papers and 1/3rd of the nation stop flying into a rage at mention of the #EU , any government can only "cherrypick"

The UK needs a massive education campaign before it can cooperate more fully with the EU.

Sadly, the UK seems to have never been able to do that. And I don't expect it to start now. The people behind Brexit are more powerful now.
