I saw southern auroras last night!!!! Rakiura! Holy cow that was AMAZING

(View from a bit south of Arthur's Pass, New Zealand)

(Follow up note: it was just barely visible to the naked eye, and just looked totally white with maybe a hint of red. A camera was required to see the colours)
Oh, and here's one from just a few minutes earlier that is full of satellite streaks 😭
@sundogplanets ... Ok, so here's an idea: take astro image. Identify each streak (should be easy if timestamp is 1s accurate). Start recording GPU time. Remove streaks. Stop recording CPU time. Calculate GPU hours. Calculate marginal costs. Add overhead (staff, infra, etc). Add two zeros. Charge sat owner for "waste removal services". ?
@sundogplanets Is that the first time you have seen the Australis?

@sundogplanets

So you did see some alien spacecraft!

@sundogplanets
Well, for me those "travelling stars" are just nice little guys, when I sit outside stargazing. So far I know it's childish, but it feels good then.
So those lines in your picture are just greetings from my nighttime friends 😉
Perhaps that helps a bit.
@alikatze @sundogplanets we already have "wandering stars" they're called planets!!!!!!!! https://www.etymonline.com/word/planet
