It's official: I'm recording my new album with Ardour. I've been testing out All The DAWs on Linux, and it's hands down my favorite. Stable, feature rich, and logical.

Now that its cue/clip features are maturing, they'll come in handy here and there, although that's not my primary use case. BUT having them means I won't have to go to Bitwig when I need to do some loopy thing.

Started the first project today. The music is ready, time to set it down.

@alisynthesis sound awesome, looking forward to follow the process! The post could have used som Breaking colors though 🀣
@alisynthesis neat! Did you ever trial Harrison Mix Bus (not FOSS)?
@ambientspace I haven't used it yet, but a good friend does and really loves it. I'm probably going to mix this album at his studio, so I suspect I will get a chance to check it out then.
@alisynthesis

Cool and I think totally valid decision!

Do you happen to know any "explain like I'm 5" tutorial about the "clip / loop" feature you mention?
I think I was there at some point (like a year ago) but just couldn't make it out (wanted to time stretch a loop and use this in a arrangement). Maybe it wasn't completely implemented back then; but more likely I just didn't understood it.

@herr_irrtum One thing I've noted about Ardour...there's not too much ELI5 info out there about it, unfortunately. The official documentation is good in a very certain way, but I would say it comes from a perspective of assuming some knowledge.

I haven't done too much with the "cue" feature (the non-linear Ableton-like system), but I've messed around a bit and looked at documentation.

@herr_irrtum It's definitely the newest part of the software and is changing quickly, so I imagine a year ago it was pretty bare bones. I did note that there are time stretching features, but I haven't tried them.

If I end up using those features during this album-making process, I'll try to remember to write something about it. It's definitely a huge step for Ardour to invest in something like that, and it would be cool if there were more info out there!

@alisynthesis

I'll take a look at it myself the next days then! Thank you for your explanation! Good luck with the album :)
