Talking w/ friends about shortwave recently and was reminded as a 1980s kid I was able to RECEIVE PICTURES FROM SPACE SATELLITES on my Apple ][ w/ a simple circuit & assembly code from a magazine. I found it! BYTE June 84: https://www.worldradiohistory.com/Archive-Byte/80s/Byte-1984-06.pdf On perfboard into joystick port! #appleii
We used to make similar interfaces for xt PC's onboard fishing vessels. They were hooked up to the audio output of their MF/HF radio's to get the weather forecast.
@[email protected] @[email protected] Did something similar with a Sangean 803A (actually its Tandy rebadging) on a PC back in the early 1990s. The word Wetterdienst on the North Atlantic maps was most memorable.
@todbot can still do this.they not from space sats. They are from landbased maritime radio transmitters.
APT from sats could be had around 136 MHz but needed slightly more kit
Used to do both. Fun.
Also Kyoto news Pravda papers etc. good times
@Jem_of_Oz Oh interesting! Thanks! Well thatโ€™s my dumb kid brain for me ๐Ÿ˜€
