Funny how the property spruiking MSM will happily run endless stories about “mum and dad investors”…
…but when the numbers show the capital gains tax discount overwhelmingly flowing to the wealthiest suburbs, suddenly it’s a quiet little article buried in finance pages.
Almost like the housing crisis isn’t about renters vs landlords, but about tax policy subsidising speculation.
They’ll never splash that across the front page.

The Aussie suburbs that overwhelmingly enjoy the benefits of CGT discount: 'Give it back'

One wealthy Aussie electorate enjoys 7.5 per cent of the total benefit of the capital gains tax discount – and its representative says it's simply not fair.

Yahoo
@mojo as a by the by, there's two #auspol phrases of the past 40 years that i loathe & detest more than maggots
- mum & dad investors
- the hard-working mums & dads of straya
🤬🖕
@MsDropbear42 Yep. Two of the most manipulative phrases in #auspol.
Just marketing slogans to make policies for the wealthy sound like they help ordinary people.
Dress up tax breaks for property speculation as helping battlers and suddenly questioning it sounds un Australian.
It’s political camouflage and the property spruiking msm shoves it down voters’ throats and sways the debate everywhere (except Victoria!!!!)

@mojo apart from what you & lucie said, with which i agree, the other reason why both but especially the second one riles me to near apoplexy, is its overt howardesque white picket fence steak & two veg heteronormativity... i just despise its inbuilt dogwhistle, ugh.
@mojo oh AND i must add... its other overt dogwhistle against other Others, in a totes ableist way -- it's so fucken disgusting
