Request: I need free placeholder app icons until I can pay a human designer to make me something.

Seems like generative AI would be good for this. Any free recommendations that aren't by weirdo companies trying to sell you a "prompt-to-prod" icon pipeline for $10/mo?

Just asking free Gemini/Claude/ChatGPT to make something is an exercise in futility. I might as well just slap a letter in a nice font onto a 512x512 canvas in Affinity Designer...

@quigs Use Icon Composer (bundled with Xcode), then plop an SF Symbol (copied as image) into the canvas

@fromtibo @brunoph IIRC only when submitting your app to the app store. Right now I’m staring at two developer apps and the geniuses at Apple only give me icons, no names, so I need something temporary until a human can make me a real icon.
@quigs @brunoph Oh yes, of course, I didn’t understand it wasn’t for the App Store.

@fromtibo @brunoph

To your point, I probably can’t use SF symbols for TestFlight though! </note_to_self>

@quigs @brunoph That I don’t know :)
@quigs Don't know if this is a weirdo company but I got some okay results from https://leonardo.ai (they try to sell you a premium account of course but the amount of free daily tokens was more than enough for my needs), then used Inkscape to convert it to SVG and tinker with it a bit, then used some FOSS website (forgot the name, sorry) to convert it to icon packs for different platforms.
