I told people before and I tell them now, no e-mail provider is safe. Especially not if you give them your banking details, of course a government will be able to use that to track you down, and unless the mail provider operates outside the western world the US can get their grubby hands on this. People keep asking "what is an alternative mail provider I can use that is safe" because this story has been so poorly explained.

#protonmail
Banking details aside, the lack of safety is INHERENT TO WHAT E-MAIL IS AS A TECHNOLOGY.
Why does Protonmail not simply protect us like Signal does? Because they are providing fundamentally different services. The web has decided to operate over an unsafe protocol and so we need unsafe providers unless we all want to host our own indie e-mail service. (Which btw would still be unsafe)

@ct The only "safe" option is none.
The next best is one you can use via @torproject / #Tor and pay for in #Cash and/or #Monero.

  • Fortunately, @monocles does all these three things!
