The porthole window of a modular unit from Japan’s now-demolished Nagakin Capsule Tower, on display at the Museum of Modern Art in NYC. Built in 1972, the tower was a radical experiment in urban living, consisting of prefabricated micro-dwellings that were attached to central cores and could (in theory) be replaced and rearranged as needed.
