Google is adding AI to Google Maps. Now I really have to find a way to transfer my "where did I hike map" to another platform 😪

@smveerman if you’re into self hosting, spin up a wanderer instance!
Otherwise, register to one of the existing wanderer instances.

It’s not perfect, but at least you’re not at the mercy of some company trying to make money out of your hiking data.

https://wanderer.to/ to get started.

Welcome to wanderer

@moostveen any recommendation for an existing server? As I do not have the time to do a deep dive in how to install an instance myself.
@smveerman @moostveen This looks cool! I might have to spend a weekend setting up a server (and send you an invitation if it ends up working)

@smveerman when I looked at wanderer, there weren’t very many instances around so I just set one up on a Pi, but then other priorities came up and I haven’t looked to move my data yet 🫣

https://wadezimmer.de/map seems actively maintained and has a lot of trails already if you need some inspiration.

The one Dutch instance (https://wanderer.grons.nl/map ) doesn’t seem to be too actively maintained, so perhaps skip that. Unless you’re feeling adventurous of course 🤣

@smveerman Umap is a grate alternative to Google my maps, it’s based on @openstreetmap !
