The clear and painful truth indeed.
Replace X axis with the words "High Net Worth Investment Returns"
So true and shameful

worry about things only if it affects them in some way
Maybe why the #TrumpEpsteinFiles event was not news back before 2019 or 2008 or last few months

Thx 4 orig Tjeerd boost
@royaards@newsie.social It does make sense for how our small community-geared (as in "small communities, not "small and also communities") brains work. X amount of deaths in a far-off country we are powerless to do anything about doesn't move the needle because it's too abstract. Prices that we pay though, that's immediate and does affect how we react.
It is horrible, we need to do more but there's learned helplessness, fear of retribution should you try to fight back and good ol' "I'm alright, Jack" logic among other things, it's not making excuses but highlighting the things we need to overcome.
Sickeningly, a very apt reflection of the majority of people, in no way limited to NL, Europe, or "the West".
@royaards Agreed. My reason for posting about gas prices is simple -- people dying 7,000 miles away is abstract. But you see the price at the pump roughly every week.
Yes that's fscking horrible but it is true.
@royaards How about this?

Not to worry! Someday soon we'll be able to kill all the people we want in developing countries and the cost of transpo won't budge.
And! We'll be able to do it with minimal "friendly" casualties but...yes, there is always a "but"...the robot losses may be severe.
We'll learn to usefully lament *their* grisly deaths too tho! Just to keep the righteous anger levels up to a properly useful patriotic level.
Cry, cry for the bots.
