Trump administration underestimated Iran war’s impact on Strait of Hormuz

The Pentagon and National Security Council significantly underestimated Iran’s willingness to close the Strait of Hormuz in response to US military strikes while planning the ongoing operation, according to multiple sources familiar with the matter.

@moira My friend published this 3 years ago. There's No Such Thing As A Smart Fascist. Truer now than ever.

@MHowell Oh, Cat Valente's essay? Yeah, it's great.
@Solarbird :flag_cascadia: If dementia has eaten away most of your brain, thinking things through is not an option.

It should be crystal clear by now for everybody in the world that the orange turd is totally incapable of leading a country, and should definitely not be in charge of the biggest army in the world. You don't give a hand gun to a toddler either.

Seriously, USA, you've proven the mantra that "everyone can become president". Not sure if you should be proud of it, but you've made your point.

Now kick this imbecile out, put him in a straight jacket (or better yet, a prison cell) and start mending the damage he has done so far.

@hans some of us saw this coming decades away and did everything in our power to stop it.

It _almost_ worked. Almost.

We're still out here working, even if it goes unreported. The problem is that it isn't just him, it's his whole party, and it's literally rule by a cult.

Again, I don't mean that metaphorically, I mean that literally. Down to the humiliation rituals, it's rule by religious cult, and the cult controls the party that has the majority in both houses of the legislature.

That's just one thing you don't understand, but it's critical. It's why this isn't already over. It. Is. Literally. A. Cult, one that controls the army, that already launched one coup attempt and which _will_ be throwing another this coming election cycle.

@hans So when you say "just throw this guy out already" (or whatever variation) when there is _no such thing as early elections in our system_ and that even if we _had_ no-confidence votes the cult _would block one_, because _they control the legislature_, you may as well be saying "why don't you just fly yourself to the moon?"

What we're trying to do is keep elections. That's the fight we have right now: still having real elections this year.

And if we do, _then_ we have to fight off a coup attempt. There will be one. They're planning it in the open; they will attempt to overturn the results in November. We have a lot of work ahead.

Basically I'm saying GET OFF OUR BACKS, WE'RE ALREADY WORKING OURSELVES WELL PAST EXHAUSTION.

@hans
Now, if you actually want to _help_...

Hurt the billionaires. They all have interest, at scale, in Europe. Musk, Karp, Ellison in particular but by no means just them.

This isn't fast, but it's real and it's important. That's why I'm out almost every Tuesday night protesting in front of a Tesla dealership, reminding people that Musk made a Hitler-worshipping child-porn-generating AI and throws Nazi salutes.

Hurt. The. Billionaires.

_That's_ what could help.

@moira I can believe they really are stupifyingly stupid but there is also the ‘happy accident’ that all this is feeding the ‘chaos’ and ‘flood the zone with shit’ philosophies Bannon et al have been promoting.
