There are so many flavors of Linux and BSD, is there a simple guide of which to use for what? #bsd #OpenBSD #linux #unix
@nabeards What usecases do you have in mind? Generally any distro should handle anything you throw at it just about fine.
@tragivictoria regular desktop usage, embedded device, public facing web server, private server šŸ˜€
@nabeards any linux should be fine imo. Although obviously you're gonna have more luck with more mainstream options, like Arch, Fedora or Debian
@tragivictoria I appreciate that, but I’m curious about why should I use a particular Linux/BSD for a specific use
@nabeards Well, my answer is that there isn't really any reason :) Basically all distros are the same really, except for some cosmetic changes or implementation details (that are largely irrelevant)
@nabeards
#OpenBSD is well-known for its security so ends up being used in firewalls, routers, etc.
#FreeBSD's also commonly used in public facing boxes.
I tend to recommend Linux #Mint for newbies and use #Slackware in my VPS.
As always, YMMV.
