Trump's Iran War costs the U.S. $1.88 billion a day. At that rate, it will take less than 2 months to match the $109 billion sent to Ukraine over three years during the Biden admin. In only six days, the U.S. has already spent 10% of what it disbursed to Kyiv after Russia's Feb 2022 invasion.
@kevinrothrock You should get a politician who stops all wars, a peace prize winner.
@kevinrothrock $5.50 per capita per day is a lotta cashola

@kevinrothrock

$11.3B. How much is this converted to lobster tails? 🤔

Don't forget the war in Ukraine has been going on for 4 years now. The US contribution for 4 years is lower than for 3 years, since they decided to stop helping and instead start war-profiteering, with the EU paying the US for weapons. US contribution is likely below $100B now.
@kevinrothrock in addition, numbers for war on Iran seem underestimated for some experts, and was the $109B for Ukraine only gifts or does it take into account the loans?

@zii_0

Over the half of that is military aid in equipment which was sent to Ukraine and money went to the US manufacturers to replenish the stocks.

@kevinrothrock

@kevinrothrock Ukraine genuinely seems like a case where some people are so horrified by the idea that pragmatic foreign policy might sometimes involve doing the right thing that they'd rather act irrationally enough to avoid the risk.

It's especially baffling when compared to fairly recent history. Back in the day if congress didn't want to send money Ollie North and The Gipper would be gunrunning to the iranians to see that you got paid; but 'democratically elected', 'defensive war'?

@kevinrothrock @briankrebs but this time you get tangible results! Just check your local gas station.

The New York Times
First 6 Days of Iran War Cost U.S. $11.3 Billion, Pentagon Says
Defense Department officials told Congress that the estimate excludes many costs tied to the military buildup. Airstrikes were shaking Beirut and Tehran, and the price of oil surged past $100 a barrel.

@kevinrothrock

cost 11.3b that they'll *admit* to... you can be sure that cost is a low estimate.

@paul_ipv6 Indeed. Surely an underestimate from the Pentagon, and this doesn't even try to account for economic damage to the world economy.
@kevinrothrock plus dead and wounded american soldiers. Not in the ukraine war but in the iran
@kevinrothrock Well, look at it on the positive side. Some people have earned a lot of taxpayers' money in just 6 days 🤔
@kevinrothrock For those at home - that makes the per-day expenditure at least 24 times higher in Iran compared to Ukraine.
@kevinrothrock I'm in Australia, but a leg or two of Canberra's light rail so far has been $2-3 billion. $11 billion could have paid for most of the legs to most of Canberra's town centres. It's going to take us about 30 years or more to actually build and spend that money. Trump blew it in 6 days, killed a lot of people, caused instability and caused the oil price to go up worldwide.
@kevinrothrock part of what I'm hearing is the US values bombing brown babies even more than saving white ones.
