hot take, the current generative AI hype and wave of generative AI tech is irredeemable colonialist garbage and if you support it you are an enemy of the commons

@typeswitch unfortunately explaining the way this connects to colonialism to the people who need to hear it would take a week

I've been meaning to write an email to my team lead expressing how I feel about the company's eager AI use and I wish I could just find the magic phrase to make them understand this

@typeswitch People who I thought had this down, who were saying the right things, keeping away from llms/genai, suddenly now being so ok with claudecode, specifically, is doing me in.

Like - I've never really felt widespread, reciprocated class solidarity in my life, but this is the first time I've felt ACTIVE BETRAYAL by people I know are capable of knowing, doing, empathizing better.

So fucking tired.

@[email protected] @[email protected] I feel this way, betrayed, both about COVID and about genai. I thought basic empathy and people's better natures would prevail with respect to COVID, but no. I thought people's technical understanding coupled with camaraderie around hardware and software would prevail with respect to genai, but no. The only silver linings I can see is that all this has taught me a lot about people, public health, and the state of my discipline that I didn't grasp before. And it strengthened ties with the people who didn't lose their heads. Still not fun for all that.
