"I asked Claude what it thinks--"
*BLOCK*
(AI must be destroyed)
For clarity:
I will block people who use AI.
I will block people who think AI "thinks" anything.
I will block people who prompt AI for the LOLs.
I will block people who report back "AI said this".
My friends in the Hell Times, do not use the theftbot for any purpose, for your sake and everyone's.
UPDATE: I will also block people who think it's funny to cosplay as AI users who like to harass people who are anti-AI.
This kind of edgelord shit (haha I'm really anti-AI! That allows me to act with impunity like the worst AI user/harassers! Can't you take a joke??) creates the kind of shitty environment that earns Masto its rep and makes me consider leaving about once a quarter.
@belo I find that we assume things don't exist until we go looking for them and then discover they're literally next door.
I'm sure there are other things that if you didn't know where you could find them, that wouldn't stop you. But we convince ourselves they don't exist for a whole host of reasons.
Mainly because it's hard -- our rugged individualist society intentionally keeps us atomized and isolated.
If for no other reason, go find your people out of spite. :)
Mastodon has a reputation? Serious question.
@susankayequinn it's the new "let me google that for you"
"oh let me requiem that for you: fuck off"
@_r I doubt that's your choice, but if an employer is forcing you to use an LLM at work against your will, I don't expect you to be doing any of the AI boosterism that I see on social media. In fact, I do see people complaining that work is *forcing* them to use AI and that it's that or find another job (I think they should find another job, but I also understand this economy is insanely bad, partly because of LLMs).
I don't block those people because they're being held hostage.
thank youThis is the way.
@susankayequinn 'Why would I bother to read something someone couldn't be bothered to write?'
I do fear AI usage and suspected AI usage will be used by bad actors to further divide people. It's already happening but I feel it will get worse. Future art and stories will be looked at with an unhealthy suspicion, especially from the kids being born tomorrow growing up being normalized by this post AI slop reality.
I hate the effect AI will have on society.
i fully understand you
@susankayequinn It's sad to loose the contact with you because of your point 1. π
I inform about how bad/dangerous AI is but I differentiate using myself a translation LLM for surviving with administration in France. As an emigrant, I always had problems with this special French.
And I make a difference to MLs in science - without them we wouldn't have many important results in climate science, e.g.
Sorry that I differentiate.
You were one of the most inspiring accounts for me!
@NatureMC I urge you to understand the difference in AI -- my post was aimed at people who use generative AI. ML in science is not generativeAI (and when genAI is used in science, ie to write papers, it is genuinely terrible and polluting science research). Likewise using translation LLM for personal usage to navigate the world is NOT putting translators out of work which is what the problem is.
Please understand the difference between what you're doing and the AI that's destroying the world.
@susankayequinn Well, *I* do understand the differences very well as knowledge is part of my work as a journalist since I wrote my first article about AI in 1984 as a young trainee.
What I didn't know is how strict you block people according to your points!
So I'm *VERY* happy that you didn't block me.
