I think my dream keyboard would have a slightly wider Tab that would be split into two, Back Tab and Forward Tab.

Tab is such a heavily used key that it would be nice to give it more to do, and free up ⇧ to mean something else, too.

@mwichary now I'm wondering if I should remap caps lock as back tab, rather than the control I have it mapped as.

@mwichary what if forward tab was as it is now on the left, and back tab was its mirror image on the right?

@PsySal Some keyboards did that back in the day! But I think it’d be both nicer and easier to use if they were side by side – like the arrow keys.

@mwichary I'd switch caps lock to be a second enter as first choice but do also like your idea

I'm used to either have tab as text or ->| style symbol neve the up arrow

@mwichary Don’t know if this would scratch your itch, but I remapped “press and hold” to shift-tab. I was on a QMK keyboard, but Karabiner or KMonad should be up to it if you’re on a Mac.

@pgroce Someone else suggested it too, but I use tabbing too quickly for this to make sense for me…
