GAZA KOMITEE CINEMA presents:
‘Naila and the Uprising’
Documentary (2017) 75 minutes

Original version with English subtitles
Director: Julia Bacha
A Just Vision production

With an opening programme of music and poetry. Followed by a discussion.

The film is set during the first Intifada, the uprising of the Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank against the Israeli occupation, and revolves around Naila, a young woman who attempts the impossible: to be a freedom fighter, wife and mother all at the same time.

Her decision has painful consequences, not only for herself.

Naila represents a generation of women who saw themselves as part of the liberation movement and took on leading roles by organising, mobilising and helping to shape political strategies.

Julia Bacha (director)
"We had the privilege of meeting dozens of women while filming this movie. They have shown incredible courage and resilience – in their ongoing resistance and in daring to tell their stories.

We hope that their experiences will inspire and inform audiences worldwide as much as they have moved and enlightened us."

Gaza Committee Cinema
We are on the streets, we organise lectures. Now the Gaza Committee is opening a cinema for works by Palestinian filmmakers.

Bringing history to life, making history tangible – what better way to do this than through film, whether documentary or feature film.

We had our premiere as part of Palestine Cinema Days in November 2025, when we presented three films at 90mill and interviewed Ghassan Abu Sittah online after the screening of ‘A State of Passion’.

Now we want to go into series production. We are delighted to have found a space in the Wolf Kino studio in Neukölln, right in the middle of an exciting cinema scene.

Now we hope to find you, our audience. See, understand, feel!
